President Larry Levinson called the meeting to order at 6:36PM and Roger Grossbard led the Pledge of Allegiance.
New People: Rebecca Medina from Glassman for US Senate campaign and Donna Gratehouse from Renz Jennings campaign.
President Levinson reminded those present about the importance of paying membership dues and making a donation for refreshments taken.
President Levinson asked candidate Sue Dolphin to stand and be recognized.
Secretary’s Report: President Levinson called on members present to approve the Secretary’s Report. The report was approved as posted on http://granddems.org/.
Treasurer’s Report: President Levinson called on members present to approve the report as presented on the back of the agenda. The report was approved. Barry Bridges noted that the Fund Raising Committee budget for the April Musical event netted more than what was projected.
President Levinson thanked the Millers and Beverley Prichard for the refreshments and filling in for Sharon Forbes.
Committee Reports:
Membership: Mary Beth Chrest reported that we have 183 paid members for 2010, up 31 from last month.
Communication: President Levinson reported that Jan Beazie is looking for help with getting our articles out to the newspapers and other publications.
Program: Chair Sharon Levinson reported that the following speakers/meeting themes have been confirmed:
· July: Informal meet with US Senate candidates
· August: Drop-in at a member’s home, Bonnie Green
· September: Immigration Issues
Social: President Levinson reported that Blue Breakfast will continue through the summer at Zen’s, for now, since JB’s/Coco’s is being remodeled. Blue Monday is at Dillon’s on the second Monday evening of the month.
Fundraising: Catherine Andrews had nothing to report.
Newsletter: The next edition of the newsletter is scheduled for distribution just prior to the September Rally. If you have an idea for an article, please submit it to President Levinson at

Pre-Election Rally: A rally like the ones we co-sponsored in 2006 and 2008 is planned for 9/25 at Valley Vista High School. The venue holds 1300 people and we will be inviting all local candidates from LD4, 9 and 12 as well as the State and US office primary winners. More details to follow as plans get firmed. Veterans: President Levinson reported that we donated $1200.00 in gift cards in honor of Memorial Day to Maricopa County Veteran's Outreach for Arizona veterans.
Oktoberfest: SCG Oktoberfest is scheduled for Saturday, 10/9 and we are looking for a volunteer to chair this one day event. Please contact President Levinson if you can assist with this event.

Memorial Day Parade: President Levinson reported that the parade was a success and thanked Sharon Forbes, Larry Goldberg, the Dolphins and Jonita Bigelow for organizing the event.

West Valley Coordinator: President Levinson reported that we have a Westside coordinator for the State Party. Her name is Denevia Thomas.

Guest Speakers: Candidates for Corporation Commission
The Corporation Commissioners have final approval of utility rates and facilitate incorporation of businesses and organizations, securities regulation and railroad/pipeline safety.
David Bradley is a member of the Arizona State Legislature, serving Legislative District 28 in Central Tucson, since 2003, and is Chief Executive Officer of La Paloma Family Services, Inc. He has Master degrees in Education and Business Administration. http://www.bradleyforarizona.com
Jorge L Garcia served as the AZ Senate Minority Leader in the last legislative session. He is a social worker in Tucson where resided since 1973. Mr. Garcia was elected to the State Senate in 2003 after serving in the House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. http://www.votegarcia.org
